The FRG-100 is awesome for SSB, go for it if you can. I have the DX-398, the
Sony 7600GR, and FRG-100 and others. The FRG-100 is the best by far on SSB.

The odd thing about HAM radio is that even when you and others are "on
frequency", there are more than a few HAMs that are "off frequency" slightly,
therefore negating the benefit of a better SSB radio (of course you can tweak
the VFO, but it's usually easier to listen to the few off frequency HAMs than
it is to constantly readjust.

The ability to listen to a broadcast AM signal using the SSB is virtually
perfect on the FRG-100, I use this to eliminate some noise that otherwise
plagues the other radios. (the Sony 7600GR at least has sideband selectable
synchronous detection, producing the same effect, but the 7600GR SSB is not as
good as it is on the FRG-100).

Regards.
