I.P.: AFAIK, the Talmud does not replace the 10 commandments, which are in
the Torah. The Talmud is the work of rabbis commenting on Torah, which
is (so they say) the work of God.

I can't disagree with you there. I had only presumed the 10 C's were replaced
or, rather, superseded by the Talmud. And I believe I meant the Torah at the
time I wrote that.

The difference is that the 10 C's are shall nots, whereas, the Torah is a set
of must do's.

The 10 Commandments are found in the Torah, which is the first 5 books
of the Old Testament -- gen, lev, deut, num, exodus, I believe. The
Torah is "The Law". The Talmud is commentaries on it.
