Sure, I can agree with that, but when 30 per cent of our
prison population is composed of illegal immigrants, I have
to wonder whether we're a "beacon of hope," or big
suckers.

Okee-Doke. I imagine your relatives (and mine) were willing to
work hard, and did not rely on handouts from the Government.

We all need to discern the vital difference between unreasoning
hate, and seeing the facts for what they are. California's budget
crisis is, according to the Democrat Budget Alliance, caused
in part (an estimated 38% of the budget, in fact), to "Social
Services Provided to Nonresident Alien Persons" (Read "Illegal
Aliens").
Just a thought from the "for what it's worth" file: We need real
immigration reforms. We need fairness for Americans AND
immigrants. We need to stop turning away certain groups (Haitians)
while accepting extreme minority groups (Cubans). I think we
need to consider our national interest vis a' vis immigration policy.
We're placing jobs out of the reach of working Americans, exporting
IT jobs to India (see the recent article in Time Magazine), and giving
many service jobs to illegal foreign nationals (Kiewit Construction
down in Omaha hires illegals as "1099 Contractors," from what I
understand). We need fairness, and fairness is not the equivalent of
hate.
