I found no lack of sensitivity in the FRG-7. I was not able
to compare the radios side by side. The variable selectivity
on the 800 is a good thing, but not as good as in my now
22 year old Kenwood R-1000.

For a price of $150 to $175, which is what I have seen the
Yaesu receivers actually sell for at hamfests, I think it
is a very good deal.

I guess the sync' detector on the '800' didn't impress you. I would
choose the '800' over the FRG-7 for that reason alone. However the FRG-7
is a good deal for a beginner.
