The RNZI [Radio New Zealand International] shortwave transmitter has been
off-air since Saturday 30 August. It is now hoped that it will be
operational again in the first week in October.

We have continued to broadcast on the Internet (www.rnzi.com). Additionally,
since 8 September we have been leasing just over four hours of time on one
of Radio Australia's transmitters to broadcast the RNZI breakfast session
each morning, on 9580 kHz. We will continue to do this until we are back on
air.
It appears likely that a lightning strike caused a series of major faults in
the transmitter. Replacement parts have been ordered and are now on their
way to New Zealand.

Thanks for the report. I'd like to know more about what happened inside
the transmitter. Is that information available?
