Is yours a newer unit, or an older one? Some of the older units had a fixed
270uH inductor as a tuning element in the 1st 455kHz I.F. stage. This is in
parallel with a 470pF chip cap. Sometimes, the tolerances of that fixed
inductor would cause a loss in sensitivity. If this is the case, it can be
replaced with a variable inductor. I did that with mine, and the NF
improved quite a bit, to the point of having an MDS of .1uV down to 200kHz,
degrading to .3uV at 100kHz. Another thing that helps this radio below
500kHz quite a bit is having a good ground. I use a power supply that has a
3 wire cord, and having that ground connection improves the low end signals
by around 3 S-units.
