Actually I have the Blap -O-Matic 88 and find it to be an excellent
reciever. The natural gas operated display is nice and bright and the
hamster driver mechanical filters have a great shape factor depending on
what type of skirt I put on the hamster. I believe the 99 uses geribles
rather than hamsters thus having the longer tail that pulls in that
extra
faint signal.
You are correct, I had a chance to use a friends 99 on a DXpedition a
while back
and it really blew the 88 away. The 99 has a built in feeder for the
gerbils as
well, whereas the 88 does not have that feature for the hamsters.
One can always count on a Blap-O-Matic in those tough DXing situations, no
matter what model one chooses.
Truer words have never been spoken. Nothing like a cold winter night here in
Minnesota at a remote cabin with a nice fire, a random lenght longwire
hooked to a Blap-O-Matic. The first time I QSLed Radio NibiNibi was using
old Blappie, as I called it ,on one of those DXpeditions. Pardon me I am
getting all choked up.
