Actually there was a time when both the E and S versions were sold,
differing only in accessories (the S comes with an active antenna and
stuff while the E has to make do with the AN-71 wire antenna). Post-1997
models feature various improvements, including better protection for the
infamous ribbon cable, better sensitivity and improved synch detection.
