I have checked Ebay off and on the past couple years for shortwave radios
and I must say I never have yet seen what I consider a great deal on a used
or new shortwave radio.
Most are either being bid at the 'average' price one would expect for that
radio or higher than some retail stores. Many times I can find the radio
cheaper somewhere else.Anyone actually had a good deal off Ebay with
shortwave radios?
Yes. Every radio I've bought through ebay has been a good deal.
The trick is when you've identified a radio you're looking for, be
patient, and wait for one to come along that's poorly listed, closing at
an inconvenient time, or when several similar ones are closing within a
short period of time.
Another thing is I've picked up some not so well known radios on ebay -
my ITT/Standard Str-428 was poorly listed, and few other bidders noticed
it because it's not a well known model. But a little research on the
brand told me it was probably going to be a good radio - so I bid. I
had to create a power supply for it because it was designed for DC
operation aboard ships, and one of these days I'll probably change the
sideband filter to one I like better, but it's a very hot and stable radio.
On my Applied Communications/Norlin SR-2150 I got a deal because
everyone else was scared off by the high bidder's reputation. (at90210)
The two times to bid on ebay are right away if you can get a super deal
on it with "buy it now" or in the last several seconds of the auction.
The exception to the rule is if it's one of my auctions. Then you
should bid as much as you can right away, call all your friends and ask
them to bid while you refinance your home so you can bid more.
