Apparently not. Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia noted that W only gets
news from domestic (US) TV news and from his advisors. He's said that
his advisors tell him everything he needs to know. Considering that
both
his dad and Clinton listened to shortwave on a regular basis (I
believe
each had a 7600) W is certainly not well informed. "A blind man in a
room of deaf people" -Paul O'Neill on W and his advisors.
There's a story going around that both Eisenhower and Kennedy had a
Hallicrafters SX-62 installed on their respective planes. I don't know
if they did any SWLing. They may have just used the radio to listen to
local AM or FM stations as they traveled around. Johnson had a stack of
TVs, each tuned to a different channel. I like the idea that a
president might check the media reports, even if it's just to see if the
public is getting the story right or not.
