I had a similar thing like this awhile back when I bought JRC-ST3 comm
"can" headphones which has a 1/4 jack and my DX-398 supports only 1/8.
A friend of mine had some parts laying around and built me a short
cord with a 1/4 and a 1/8. I did this because the weight of one of
those small metal adapters and then the weight of the 1/4 plug would
of been too much for the headphone jack..

Now if ya wanna get real fancy, you could get some sort of switching
mechanism that allows you to switch between things without taking any
plug out.
