Rusing into it is probably a bad idea. I would recommend that you look
at the DEGEN 1102. You can get this for under $100.00 easy on eBay. It
performs quite well for a protable. Try it out and see if you enjoy
the hobby. If you do, you will want to get a good table top radio. One
of these will cost you $400.00 and up depending on if you look at
used radios.
