Has anyone ever dropped a Grundig S350? How flimsy are they when
dropped? Would you consider giving one to a building contractor?
Judging from what I've seen in secondhand shops and at fleamarkets and yard
sales, portable radios regularly get dropped, banged around, seriously
dented, and often mortally wounded. Occasionally, some of them get
"repairs" that would, in the world of medical treatment on injured humans,
be analogous to something between quackery and fraudulent medical practice.
I'm quite sure that enough Grundig S-350's have been sold now that some have
been dropped more than once, and quite a number have, no doubt, not survived
the experience.
I did drop my S-350 onto a concrete floor from about 80 centimeters up,
(about two and one-half feet), and its fall was cushionned by thin carpet.
The radio did not care.
Would I give it to a building contractor? Of course not! He'd have to buy
it from me. He has more money than I do, so he can afford to buy his own.
Would I reccommend one to a building contractor? You bet I would, no
hesitations, no reservations.
Since the S-350 is in that size class that even many in this group would
consider too large to be truly portable, I don't think you'd have to worry
about the building contractor carrying the S-350 around on a jobsite trying
to listen to Radio Nacional de Colombia while supervising his Mexican
carpenters, bricklayers, plumbers, and electricians. He'd want a
shirt-pocket-sized model for carrying around on the jobsite. The S-350
could live on the desk back in the office, or in the site manager's trailor.
As for the small and rather soft drop, the S-350 has no battle scars of any
kind, internally or externally to indicate that it has yet been used as a
portable radio.

A small object that is accidentally dropped will hide.
