An external antenna is most important here..

I just ordered a Degen 1102 from eBay. For $49.50 + 19.00 shipping, I
receive a dual conversion, SSB capable SW radio with 190 memories. It
also comes with the rechargeable batteries that charge in the radio,
ear buds with bass booster and a reel out external antenna. At the
very least, it has an external antenna input.

And the trick thing about it is that its whole keypad lights up in a
deep blue color as well as the display for night DXing.

Do a search for the seller Liypn and you will find silver and black
models together. He replied within 15 minutes of me making the
purchase, told the day he is shipping and said that packages usually
come in 7 to 10 days, which has been corroborated with other buyers I
have read here in rec.radio.shortwave.

The radio is just over 5" long!

Good luck on your decision. My other radios are a Grundig Satellit
800 and a Grundig S-350.

Several people I know have gotten the 505A and been very impressed with it.

Too bad everyone started thinking of this only when the competition (cheap
Degen/Kaito portables) came out.

Last year at this time, Radio Shack was closing out the last of their own
brand shortwave sets. Their version of the ATS-505 was going for $49 if
you could find one.
