One time, a few years back, there was an elderly farmer living in
western Maine, near the New Hampshire border.

One day, a crew of surveyors from the state came by the area. They did
all of their sightings and measurements and calculations, and then one
of them went up to the farmhouse.

He asked the farmer how long he had lived there, and the farmer
replied, "80 years, next November, I've lived on this farm here in
Maine since I was born."

He told the farmer, "we've just checked, and the state border was
marked in the wrong place. Your farm is actually in New Hampshire."

The farmer said, " Good thing, too. Don't think I could have taken
another one of those Maine winters."
