Default Sony CFM-140S

I got out my old Sony that I purchased in Kuwait in '91 and did some
more side-by-side comparisons to my Sangean 909. I wish I hadn't.

I have my 909 on the reel antenna and thought it was doing well. The
Sony has no external antenna jack so I extended the short whip and found
that it received much more clearly than the Sangean. The noise floor on
the Sony seems almost nonexistant compared to the Sangean. Stations
that the Sangean could barely discern were virtually crystal clear on
the Sony. On a whim I even folded up the antenna on the Sony and it
STILL outperformed the Sangean significantly on weaker signals.

The Sony is a simple 4-band (FM,AM,SW1,SW2) with SW up to 22MHz. It is
analog and the SW has a fine (and I mean VERY fine) tuning knob that is
marvelous to use. It also has a tape recorder built in. But it also
lacks a clock, alarm, timer, SSB, external ant jack, wide/narrow filter,
etc. I wish I could take the sensitivity of the Sony and place it in my
Sangean!

Does anyone have first hand experience with the Super 909? I read that
it even replaces the filters so, besides increased sensitivity, it also
might offer more separation. I would be willing to pony up the $109 to
get the mods if it would let my Sangean perform as well as this Sony.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how my Sangean might be improved by me
instead of having to ship it off?

Thanks for listening.
