All usenet BS aside - seriously, where have you heard that kind of
rhetoric? Most of the negativity in the campaign that I have observed has
come from the democrats - which, I might add is not unusual for the
challenger, regardless of political party.

Actually, you pinpoint the problem.
While the conservatives try to fix the problems, with the liberals it's all
about a desperate attempt get the power back (that they deservedly lost).
These people are more than willing to work against the greater good of the
American people if it means that it might result in getting their coveted
power back. It's simply disgusting.
