I think this is an apples and oranges thing. AirAmerica is not a
non-profit, though I understand they do not expect to make a profit
for a while.
Who said anything about profitability? The latest and greatest election
law reform prevents the soft money campaigning so to get around this
political issues groups are buying radio stations to get their word out
since they can not just create political ads and buy air time.
Air America claims to eventually be a for profit but I think they are
lying about it.
It's possible that more groups for profit or not may start their own
networks and claim free speech instead of political ads.
