If given a level playing field, those POW's may well readily seek to kill
our people. The hard truth is that the situation they were in was not a
level playing field. They were POW's detained under our control and
responsibility and we should handle them according to our standards. And,
no - I'm not advocating giving them a level playing field - I'm advocating
that those bad-apples are held strictly accountable for their actions.

There's a news story about one of the prisoners in the pictures. The short
version is:
He was tortured under Saddam's regime because one of his cousins was linked
to an assissination plot against one of Saddam's sons. He ended up in US
custody because he was a passenger in a stolen taxi and was arrested with
the driver. He was held for months without being questioned about the
stolen taxi. He got into a fight with another prisoner, and it was decided
he needed four hours of punishment. Punishment by humiliation. His image
is among the widely circulated pictures of naked men.
"Abed is mentioned in the United States' military's internal investigation
report. He's described as a credible witness. He's also a devout Muslim."
