I seem to remember reading somewhere that there was no definitive way to
tell if you are looking at a "improved" SW77, only that if you have a
"late
model" unit, then it has the improvements.

Okay, so I want one. An SW77, that is. But I can't afford a new one,
so
I'm going to be buying used. I understand that there were improvements
made
around 1994, and the new models had serial numbers in the 900,000 or
47,000
range. So far, so good.
But then I read that there were more improvements made in 1997. Can
anyone
tell me what serial numbers identify post-1997 models? Or other
identifying
characteristics?
Thanks,
Sean
They are compiling a database of serial numbers at the Yahoo groups page.
However, there is a good post there from the group owner, who has an earlier
model SW77. He took it by a radio dealer, and they let him borrow a new
SW77 to compare the two side by side. Now, according to the post, he only
used the whip antennas in the parking lot, but the performance of both
receivers was identical. I'd look the post up for you and link it, but if
you're not yet a member of the group, it wouldn't do you any good.
