TNO offers through-the-wall radar for special operations
TNO Physics and Electronics Laboratory of The Hague, the Netherlands, is
developing a low-budget, hand-held through-the-wall radar designed for urban
warfare and anti-terrorism special operations. The feasibility of the 2.48GHz
frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology has been demonstrated in
recent months using a static prototype controlled by a PC, and the defense
research institute is now preparing to start a one-year development of a
hand-held prototype system under a EUR250,000 (US$309,000) national technology
project funded by the Netherlands.
