I have the degen 1103 (next to me now, actually ;-)

seemed like a simple choice between them - do you need full coverage (0.1
to 30 mhz)? If so, the degen 1103 provides that, the degen 1102 doesn't.
That's why I bought it. I wanted the option of continuous coverage,
including the 160 meter ham band, and the VLF beacon band (as I'm building
a 160+ khz beacon etc.).

The ergonomics could be better (volume control, buttons..) but I prefer
the tunable "analog" style dial to pressing up/down buttons ;-) But at
this $50-ish price range, for a digital dial double conversion radio with
SSB/CW, what are your other options? ;-)

I should add that I wanted to listen to AM shortwave stations, but as a
ham, I also wanted to be able to listen to ham nets (e.g., hurricane nets
;-) and morse code (to rebuild my speed). If I only wanted AM shortwave
stations, then the degen 1102 might be a better choice. But for the few $$
more, if you can live with the ergonomics, the degen 1103 gives you
complete coverage in a jacket pocket sized radio ;-)

hope this helps - bobm
