True - on the other hand, there have been plenty of genocidal regimes
who have had no compunction about murdering children even when the
regime's members were not being mistreated by the group to be
murdered.

The mere fact that a person is a child does not mean that he or she
will deserve any special treatment by an opposing group. Any opposing
group. And frankly, if it will get to the heart and soul of an enemy
more quickly, there is no reason to doubt that children will *not* be
used as pawns or sacrifices. We here in the civilized, compassionate
world may cringe at the thought, but barbaric conditions result in
barbaric actions. Humanity does not equal sainthood, now or ever.

I agree that injustice leads to things like this, but I can't recall any
other terrorist group going into a school and directly targeting children
to get their message across. If you have children like I do this is a
horror. There are no barbaric conditions great enough to justify actions
like this or make them somehow understandable.

Not only genocidal regimes result in children losing their lives. Other
"normal" countries have done plenty of that including the USA in
Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Dresden, Vietnam etc.), but colateral damage is one
thing and directly targeting children is another..
