A DX evening in Auckland, New Zealand...
It's been an interesting, DX, evening...
Voice of the People is coming into Auckland, New Zealand currently (Sep 17,
11:20 UTC) on 6600 kHz, AM. They started up on the hour (11:00). Transmitter
is in South Korea, broadcasting political material to North Korea. North
Korea runs a jamming station when Voice of the People is active.
Initially, the jammer sounds somewhat like a heterodyne - constant
background tone. But you can't remove it with a notch filter!
Also, heard Trenton Military, with VOLMET info for much of Canada. This was
on 6754 kHz, USB, at 10:55 UTC. I know that's not much of a challenge for
you people in North America, but it it's a bit more exotic from here.
Haven't heard them for a few years. They used to be on 6753 kHz. Seems like
they've moved up a little in frequency!
And, earlier this evening, I heard the end of a transmission on 6610 kHz,
USB. It was an Australian male, and I may have just caught the words "Flight
Watch". This may have been on the Australian mainland. Or it may have come
from Casey or Mawson Base in Antarctica. Anybody heard this before?
And, at 09:45 UTC, on 8906 USB, Santa Maria radio (Azores) keeping busy.
MWARA NAT-A.
(Of course the regular MWARA stuff can be heard too: Tokyo, Manila,
Singapore etc...)
Mark.
