with the ham radio operator also getting a QSL back that verified the shortwave
listeners heard him/her/them.


One does not need a hokey fake callsign to send a QSL. How about the
important stuff: location, signal strength and quality, antenna,
receiver... y'know, similar to what you'd put in a reception report to
a broadcast station.
