I'd say yours is defective. The sync on mine is outstanding. It
*completely* eliminates adjacent channel interference/hets.
In mine (was one of the first ones out), it's sync has historically
been very good. The original AC adaptor had some issues with
it (more along the lines of interference with the radio than anything
nasty), but Grundig replaced the AC adaptors for free.
Only thing I've noticed in mine is that it's in my basement office,
and in the winter time the sync doesn't work so well the past
couple of years. Could be that 59F basement that I have in the
winter, more than anything else. One of these days, I'm going to
send it to Drake to get the sync tweaked for that.
On the whole, the 800 is a good portatop. It replaced my Icom R-70,
and it seemed to do just as good for DXing (assuming an outside
antenna) as the R70 did. And it sounded a lot better, too.
