Hello Stephan,
Thanks for the fast and insightfull response. You've really given me a
leg up on this. Yes, I have the SMD tools for this along with scope and
dmm. Just need to download the manual and have at it ... thanks again!

Good luck. BTW, make sure it's not just the power amp that's dead (but I
guess the tuning LED never lights, correct?). And if you find any
leakage, cleaning the PCB may help. The worst case scenario probably is
having to change every single electrolytic, or at least most of them
(plus cleaning) - incidentally, this has been necessary for some people.
It has been suggested to crush the existing caps and solder to the
remaining legs to avoid PCB damage, a reasonable tip IMHO.

As you've been so helpful, if all else fails and I elect to scrap it, I
would like to send it to you for spare parts if you are interested.

I don't know... the shipping costs may turn out being as high as what
it's worth. Besides, it was enough of a hassle to get mine running (I do
not have the tools, vision, skills and all so I had to look out for
someone who could do the soldering for me) that I'm not all that keen on
getting another... If you should really fail to find the problem(s),
maybe you know someone who's really good at this stuff and happens to
know a good cause to dedicate the thing to.
On a side note, my SW7600G could use a front in good shape and a new
telescopic antenna, but I've yet to see one that was defective
electronically. (Well, at least that's a good sign WRT reliability,
isn't it?)

OK, then the SW7600 did reach more than 300,000 samples - something for
which the SW7600G needed much longer (I have yet to see any S/Ns over
300,000, 275xxx from May 2000 was the highest to date) and the 7600GR
may not even get close to.
