Thats an interesting radio. Is it a shortwave radio or a radio that
could pick up station say 50-100 miles radius?

It is AM/FM only, but it can certainly pick up stations much farther away than
that. I have that radio, and it is a great AM DXing radio, since it has
external antenna inputs AND is portable and light enough to be used with loop
antennas and really get good directionality. The analog, slide-rule dial scheme
is not terribly accurate, but once you've ID'ed a station it's not really a
hassle, at least in my opinion. Nice audio as well!

Although I have a shortwave, I could pick up over sea but not New Jersey
across the river. LOL!

Hahahah! Well heck, maybe you're too close for skywave, too far away for
groundwave. But I can't imagine not being able to get something that
(relatively) close to you on commercial AM or FM, at least if you have a
halfway-decent antenna and a selective enough front end on your receiver. Then
again, you may have a LOT more signals to wade through than I know about
(northeast vs. midwest boondocks, heheh!)... but the GE SRIII is worthy of a
look, believe me!
Good luck-
