I purchased a new Icom R-75 about 3 weeks ago, and noticed that there is
no
clear plastic window covering the LCD panel. Touching the LCD panel
causes
the blurring or distortion effect on the digits that you would normally
see.

After checking the Yahoo newsgroup one other person responded that his
R75
does not have the window either. This surprises me, since even my $5 desk
calculator has a protective window for the LCD panel.

So now I'm wondering if it was left off some radios during manufacture,
or
if this is actually a design flaw.

Could owners of R-75's please reply to this post whether or not their
receiver has a clear protective window over the LCD panel?

Adding things like the protective window would add to the cost of the
radio, and it's probably not the sort of feature people think about when
shopping.

Another radio without protection for the LCD's is the Racal 6790 - and
this may be one reason why there's a regular market for replacements.

Mark,
do you use the sideband feature using the 9Mhz 2.4 filter? I've been
testing it and it works pretty well. I'm surprised Icom doesn't advertise
this as a feature.
