| I live in a little two-horse town with under 3000 people, I think. 30
| yrs ago the water and sewer was about $3 / month for one party I know.
| Recently (? 1 yr) the town created a MINIMUM billing of $35 for water
| and sewer and you don't have to use a lot of water for it start
| increasing. If not paid before the 6th it jumps $10 higher!

It gets worse. In many municipalities, if you don't pay your
utility bills, you'll be in hock to the gummint, and the gummint
will place a lien upon your home, eventually foreclosing upon
that lien, and you lose your home. Just *try* not paying your
property taxes - same thing will happen. Live in a development
with a homeowners' association? In one case, a lady had the
wrong - colored trash cans, the HOA placed a penalty assessment
upon her home, and eventually foreclosed on that unpaid assessment.

| I know a fellow on a local lake who has water all around him. He found
| it hard to believe that the UN is going to ever see to it that he pays
| for water coming out of his own well. He IS aware that the next ten
| years will be FAR different from the previous ten. I think we'd ALL be
| surprised at HOW different it is to become.

As I've said previously: People who love their freedom will have to get
off of their fat asses and pay close attention to the machinations of local
government bodies, state government and Federal government as well.

I've attended civil planning meetings, where the city or county is deciding
on what restrictions they want to put upon homeowners - taxpaying citizens!
You would not believe some of the **** that goes on: Tower height
restrictions
of 30 feet, in some Minnesota municipalities. Conditional use permits which
are absolutely revocable by the local authorities. You could spend $5000
building a fine antenna system, only to have the County Board revoke your
C.U.P., and it all comes down. On a whim.

So, what can we do? Stop huddling behind our radios and grumbling about
the erosion of our personal liberties. Start attending water borad
meetings,
planning commission forums, candidate forums, and so forth. If you
encounter
bull****, speak up! We often get the government we deserve, on the basis
of flopping down on the couch and doing absolutely NOTHING.

How does the quote go? The only thing required for evil to flourish
is for good men to do NOTHING. Well, that's just what's happening.
The American populace is more interested in watching NBA gangfights,
partisan bitching on
the news (accompanied by bloviating TV programs wherein handpicked
cheerleaders cheer "their side" and so forth), and porn than they are in
paying attention to the people who have an incredible amount of power
to control their / our lives.

You can blame the UN all you want, Al, and for the fun of it, go ahead
and blame the Jews, the Freemasons, the Illuminati, the Bilderburgers,
or your nest door neighbors, but you've completely missed the point: If we
have
****ty government, it is OUR collective fault, and if you practice the fine
art
of scapegoating, you are playing into the hands of those who desire total
control over your actions. The UN didn't create this diversion, folks who
want to sell cheap water filters, MREs, and poorly written conspiracy theory
screeds didn't (but they profit from it).

That's my own opinion - probably worth just about what you paid for it.
