I like the Creative Labs travelsound speakers. There are two
models I have
the old one
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3991040 $49.88
apparently analog, runs 30h on 4AA's
a newer one
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3712467 $59.88
which is digital, runs 30h on 4 AAA's
They sound the same, both pretty good. They're small, and great for
plugging your player into for desktop sound.
The AAA has a big plus, a headphone jack, which means you can use it
as a portable audio amplifier. BUT the thing puts out birdies up
thru shortwave freqs, and if your radio is listening to one of its
frequencies, it's a big loser.
The AA has no birdies; but is less efficient than the digital version.
The thing is slightly bigger physically but not much. It's also less
prone to tip over when unfolded. On the other hand, you don't have to
unfold the AAA one at all if you don't want to - no jacks wind up on
the bottom. And then, with NiMH in either case, the difference in
efficiency doesn't matter.
The AA has a physical volume control, which is perhaps more intuitive
than the press and hold up and down on the AAA. But then maybe
someday the thing will go scratchy, who knows.
I recommend getting either one, or both, but be aware of the birdies.
