I find it to be a nice portable shortwave radio, provided you get the
Sony
AN-LP1 active antenna for it instead of using the whip. I've never
tried another antenna, so maybe a random wire would also help.
I am using it almost exclusively for MW, as it is an excellent MW
receiver just by itself (never tried an external antenna; BTW, the
AN-LP1 will not work at all on MW).
SW reception is good but I don't like the ergonomics, you might not
have the same problem. I am used to a tuning knob and larger
controls.
FM is not bad, either. I would recommend it for a good all-around
radio.
