I once took a road trip from Yosemite to Death Valley driving south through
Mono

On my left (east) about a mile or so was a huge satellite dish farm.
Do you have any clue as to its purpose?

I'm not familiar with the high desert. Sorry. I rarely go to LA, and
I've never been through most of the desert, including Highway 395.
