This is a hoax.

Maybe more more important, a really old hoax. I think it already
existed when I got newsgroup access back in 1994, and appeared in books
about the internet, in the category of hoaxes, right next to the postcard
one. I'm pretty sure it was in "Zen and the Art of the Internet", but I
no longer have a copy handy.
