OH YA i just read a few of the for sale postings and i didn't see anyone
garenteeing the stuff!
No one is saying you should have a guarentee. You should go back and read all
the replies. All we're questioning is anyone that says that an item is sold
"as-is" (and they include the phrase "as with all electronics" - where that
came from, I have no idea).
All anyone wants is an accurate description of the item being sold, a list of
what's wrong (if anything), and the general feeling that it's been described to
the best of the seller's ability. There is too much use of the phrases "As with
all electronics, this item is sold as-is" and "This item is untested". That
just gives it the appearance that the item is really junk and you're just
trying to cover yourself because you know it's a non-working radio.
Something like "Item is as-described" (after an accurate description is posted)
is more acceptable. I think everyone understands that a radio can be damaged in
shipping, and if that happens, shipping insurance can cover that loss or
repair. I also think that everyone understands that unless there is evidence of
shipping damage, when they take a radio (or any other electronic item) out of
the box, it will function "as-described", but there are no guarentees beyond
that.
I hope that clairifies my position, and what I believe is a lot of other ham's
positions.
