Clear Channel has a new CEO, the founder of New York's first all
sports outlet, WFAN.
Two wrong facts in one sentence.
First, Infinity has a new CEO, not Clear Channel.
Second, Joel Hollander was not the mind behind the decision to build WFAN...
it was Jeff Smulyan of Emmis. Hollander was a management person who was told
what to do.
Perhaps under him CC will improve.
Except that the change is at Infinity, which is underperforming badly.
Perhaps it
won't have such wonderful procedures as having someone in Florida do
the "local" content between songs in Iowa by reading through an Iowa
newspaper because, after they pay inflated station prices and
financing, a local DJ in Iowa is too expensive.
CEOs don't, generally, get into that kind of detail.
"Besides, for adults and some teenagers, taste is not the only, or
even the most important, consideration. The media should also make us
think, excite our passions, provoke, stimulate, inform and challenge
us."
John Hollander at the 30th anniversary celebration of the National
Coalition Against Censorship
Hollander has been, for many years, at Infinity (a part of Viacom) where
Howard Stern reigns, and where Opie & Anthony did their thing for a while.
Thinking Infinity is better on indecency than CCU is absurd and demonstrably
wrong.
