I bought a magnet mount cb antenna from radio shack. Put it up on my
suburban. At about 40 miles per hour it blew down and almost fell of
the car.
The magnet is not strong enough. This is often the case when buying product
that is considered enferior, as Radio Shack's usually are. If you have th
ereceipt, take it bak and try and get your 30 bucks, or whatever you paid,
and then buy a Wilson 1000. Much better magnet for only a few $'s more. In
CB, as with almost any other hobby, you get what you paid for.
I put velcrow in between the base and the roof of the car(i
know, it's the only thing i could think of). Will this interfere with
the ground?
Only when the ground causes the antenna to fragment when it hits after
falling off your vehicle. The velcro would be OK if you were sporting a much
more powerful magnet.
The bottom of the base didn't have any metal "contact"
points or anything that i could have covered up plus the car is
painted so how is it supposed to connect to the car to get a ground
connection anyway?
It grounds through magnetism. Like magic! ;-)
I can pick up signals pretty well.(i think, this
is my first cb, can you tell)
Everybody starts off the same. You'll learn. Just as you'll learn who to
read on this board and who to ignore. By the way, the person that responded
to you using Frank's name is a forge. Like I said, you'll learn.
Welcome to the hobby.
