Thanks guys. I cleaned the relay today and the rig is working perfectly. I
suggest using a 1/4" X 2" strip of brown paper bag paper to do the cleaning
along with a quality contact cleaner solution. The relay is the large one in
the center of the bottom of the radio located, as you would expect, on the
relay board or unit as Kenwood calls it. It is easy to remove and re-insert
into the socket. If you try this be careful, the relay is delicate.
Thanks again,
Ken

My old TS-820S takes forever to drop back to receive after transmitting.
I'm sure it is the relay but I need a little info.
First is the relay on the on the "RELAY UNIT, X543-1190-00" the relay in
question? Sound like a stupid question but I've been into a 830 before and
it has two relays in it.
Secondly, is the relay in a socket?
I have found that Mouser carries a replacement relay (part
#526R1617D512)which I will order if the original relay is soldered in, if
not I will try to clean the relay in the radio. I will probably order one
anyway to have as a spare or in case I mess up the original in the
cleaning process.
I appreciate any info you may offer.
