Can anyone make a recommendation for a used rock solid reliable
dual-band base radio?

You see, I like my radios to last forever. And when they do break for
them to be repairable (repair cost not exceeding the value of the radio).

Manufacturers are required to keep parts for only seven years after
ceasing production on a model -- while many parts are replaceable,
things like tuning encoders and and illuminated displays are generally
proprietary, and hard to replace once the manufacturer stops making
them.

Did Ten-Tek ever make a VHF/UHF radio?

Ten Tec currently offers a 2-meter FM/data transceiver kit with a
30-watt amp; nothing for UHF, though. See their web site for details.
