MEET PROMO GIRL: THE VOICE THAT HAS STEPPED OUTSIDE THE CBC RADIO BOX

I haven't heard Promo Girl, but this reminds me of the absolutely MOST
ANNOYING radio commercials I have EVER heard. A decade ago in San Jose,
California, there was a shop called Beeper City. It sold pagers in the
days before cell phones were common. They did spots on local radio
featuring "Beeper Guy" or as everybody at the college called him Beeper
Dummy. They called him this because he had the most annoying tone of
voice you've ever heard, and a hyperactive style of pushing beepers,
like somebody who's taken too much Adderall for their own good. A 30
second spot on KMEL left you longing for the "DJ Girl" song (probably
the most annoying pop song in history, but that's another story). It was
like your ears ran a marathon with Beeper Dummy, and boy were they
exhausted when it was over. "Beepers, beepers, beepers!" We were all
about ready to go down to Beeper City and burn down their stupid little
pager store by the time the promotion ran its course. But I'm sure that
Beeper City got a lot of business from Beeper Guy.
