Hi,
Actually I was quite surprised by the performance of my 100PE. I live in a
high rise near downtown here in Windsor and the reception is no great hell.
A few years ago I took the 100PE to the riverfront (a 15 minute walk from
where I live) and was stunned by what it picked vs. what it picked up in our
apartment or even on our balcony. As I'm sure you can guess, the performance
of my 400PE and DX-398 on the riverfront vs. them in my apartment or balcony
produce similar night-and-day differences. I've yet to take my Sat-800 down
there and try
it.
As for my Sat-800, I'm extremely happy with it. I managed to get a "good"
one. Needless to say, it was and still is an extremely mocked/put-down
receiver by this group but that has never bothered me. My DX-394B which I
was also extremely happy with was also highly mocked/put-down as well but
was also never bothered by it. By the way, when I had my DX-394B, I had an
external DSP unit (Radio Shack DSP-40) and a good external speaker hooked up
to it. When I got my Sat-800, I did try it with these but found I really
didn't need them.
My "dream receiver" is actually an NRD-545 DSP but it's pretty pricey here
in Canada.
We all have our own receiver likes, dislikes and $$ budgets and have always
respected than in others. When it comes to SWLing and if you're happy with
what you have and/or it suites your wants and/or desires, who cares what
others may think - I don't and never have.
The DX-394B that I mentioned in my 1st post more than suites my best
friend's SWL needs and desires. The same goes for my other best friend that
has the 100PE - I actually offered him my DX-398 once but prefers the 100PE
(he's also my chiropractor and doesn't charge me for any treatments....which
is why I offered him the DX-398 last year and I won't lie, I'm glad he
turned the 398 down g)
What that saying....ah yes, I remember now, "to each his/her own"....
Take Care

Oh, and by the way, I hope that that "That's why there was an R8B"
crack wasn't intended to suggest that the R8B is comparable in
overall
performance to the S800. The S800 is to the R8B what a WJ100 is to a
Grundig Mini World 100 PE.
And I thought the Mini World 100 PE was the
be-all and end-all of SW receivers.
