Yeah, at least in the near term. But further out, when everyone has
wris****ch size, secure encrypted digital satellite two-way receivers
(hey, I can dream, can't I? :-o ), I don't imagine there will be too
many utilities and Mossad numbers stations on "Shortwave" as we know
it now!

I've often wondered about this, actually, especially in connection with
the military. The great thing about HF is its simplicity. With very
little in the way of equipment, you can send a message to someone
halfway around the world. You don't need the ability to put satellites
into orbit, the ability to run cables underneath the ocean, or any
other highly complex systems or enormous pieces of 'infrastructrure'. I
suppose we could "bet" that our access to or ability to utilize all of
this infrastructure will never be compromised; but I, for one, would
not want to make this bet.
