He evidently thinks (knows) the RadioShack Realistic

Yeah I guess so. I never heard one so I can't say myself. FM listeners don't
really care about SW and SSB. Actually, I was looking to buy one of these
radios myself if I saw one in very good condition.

I wanted one in my collection since it was supposedly the only triple
conversion port out there. They were going for $40-$60 but many didn't look
to good. I didn't want to pay more then say $50 for one. I did some research
on the radio and the keyboard entry goes bad after a while. There is no
manual knob for tuning so you're stuck with the keyboard.

Even if you know how to fix radios, the keyboard is "welded" down with
plastic tabs to the radio's body. So, it can only be removed and installed a
few times.
The closer you live to the ocean, the faster the keyboard goes bad over
time.
The radio is pretty old so you want one in well kept in good condition.

I think the triple conversion factor is the reason it's sought after so
much. Wonder how much difference it really makes and can you hear it with a
portable???

But for $162, and if he likes FM, I think he could have done better but to
each his own I say!

Here is the telling line that describes why you chose to rant about this to
begin with: "I wanted one in my collection...".

So essentially you were just ****ed because the price went high?

If you are indeed so well off, as you alluded to in an earlier post, then money
should be no object to you... correct?
