Keep plenty of guns, plenty of ammo, and your shortwave radios and
transmitters, they are the only thing that will save you from dangerous
regimes.

I don't think that handguns will do much good against a modern army
equipped with the latest weapons.

Handguns? Where was there mention of "handguns?"

A bunch of Muslims with artillery shells and
plastique have run circles around the Israeli and American armies,
arguably the best equipped and trained fighting forces in existence
today.

"run circles around"??? Now who's being the propagandist?
If the US were to "take the gloves off" there would be
NOTHING left in Iraq or Afghanistan but a thin layer of
glass, ash, and sand. However, the US is patient to a fault
and will unfortunately pay for that with more casualties until
those countries can stand on their own without imploding.

If you're willing to strap a bomb vest to your body and blow
yourself up in the name of freedom, then talk about fighting a
dictatorship.

Oh please, do enlighten us all. Name one successful coup
where suicide bombings have overthrown the dictatorships?
Or are you suggesting suicide is "freedom?" ...or perhaps
the blowing up of a market-full of noncombatants as "freedom?"

But even more important is the
power of information and propaganda, that's where shortwave comes in.

....and biased posts to newsgroups.

It's hard to jam or cancel, so if you have a protected position you can
set up a transmitter and broadcast stuff to your comrades all day long,
and the enemy can't do much about it.

Wow, and you believe that? How little you must know about
modern technology and weaponry.

Shortwave transmitters in the
Middle East broadcast many hours a day of calls to jihad. There's not
much in the way of English language broadcasts from these stations,
which makes it hard to appreciate their impact, especially since they're
only audible for a few hours a day in North America. But in Arabic
they're quite powerful.

I can assure you that these stations could be taken off the air if
it is so desired. The since the '60s, the US military has worn the
leash of DC politics around its neck. To take out propaganda
engines such as al jazeera may provide temporary edge in the
info war, such advantage would likely be offset by the resulting
galvanization of the opposition.
