Only a fool would have a radio and an antenna like that
on any car............
Why would that be? All my vehicles have such devices...
The only problem I see on that vette, is it's all plastic....
That bumper is not going to cut it as far as a good
counterpoise for that antenna...I hope someone ran
some grounding strap, or at least heavy wire around the
body innerds, and grounded to the frame. Both of my
trucks would likely beat his setup like a lost stepchild.
Lots of metal under my antennas.

That was at a field day about 2-3 years ago...That particular
ford truck is a 68 F-250. Note the antenna on the Ute bed...
Works all bands 80-10, including warc, and is all homemade
of course...I carried the tower and beam on that motorcycle
trailer. The tower is a tilt/crankover, and the beam a cushcraft
A4S.
I also have another 74 ford F-100 , also with a camper, and the
antenna mount on it is on the cab, nearly at roof level. It's even
higher than the one on the 68...Would kick ole Barry's ass with
that plastic corvette...

I like his car though....Nice...I didn't
know
an ole fart like him drove a vette....I have some pictures of his
last shack around here somewhere...I remember he ran a henry
amp...Forgot what radio....One of the fancier JA rigs...IE: TS-940,
etc...??
But unlike that drifty Swan rig he ran, "tubes", my radio is a bit more
modern....

Lots smaller too. Also, all bands, all modes...His, just HF ham bands
only...
Needless to say, SWLing is great in my vehicles...

But I can also talk, from anywhere in the world...Desert, mountain top,
wherever....If I ever get bit on the ass by a snake, I can call for
help.
Thats the attraction of having that much uglyness on one vehicle...
BTW....I still remember when Goldwater ran against Johnson for
pres....Was in 64....I was in 2nd grade, and had just got my first
portable AM radio for my birthday....6 transisters of course...
If my mother only knew what it would lead to.... :/
I hate driving on the interstate without my radio.....Makes the trips
go much faster when I can talk to all them good ole boys and girls
out in radioland. With the 706, I can listen to nearly anything worth
listening to..LW, HF, VHF, UHF....It's also a good scanner for
police, air, etc...
I remember in 64, I had a revelle plastic model of his car....
63 was the first year of the "stingray"...
