Actually, the FR200 (my LL Bean version anyway) uses a white LED light.

I wasn't sure if you were implying that the FR200 didn't have
shortwave...if so, it does. Shortwave capability in most emergencies
is probably not going to be as useful as MW and FM reception.

I would like to think that I would keep a fresh supply of alkaline
batteries ready for emergencies, but I know otherwise. For me a
rechargable unit is the better choice for an emergency radio.
