A quaint archaic southern term most often used to denote someone
who has just obtained advanced university degrees, or any degree in
divinity.

My friend has passed all her exams, defended both her thesis(or should
that be thesi for plural?) and is waiting for graduation to receive her

degrees. I feel some satisfaction because my wife and I helped her get
her first SWL setup, my old RF2200, helped her study for her ham
license and encouraged her to shoot for the stars when no one else had
faith that
a black girl from the wrong side of town could get into college, much
less
get 2 PHDs. She has worked her ass off for the last decade. I know she

will do as well with the rest of her life as she has so far.

I can still remember the afternoon about 15 years ago when she called
me
at work wanting to know if I had ever heard any "radio signals from
the planet Jupiter." That started her interest in radio astronomy. When
she moved from the city to the country to live with an aunt after her
mother
started messing around with drugs, we put up a much better antenna
system and she won several "Science Fairs" and even got a couple of
scholarships for her efforts.

I am rather shocked that a good ol' southern boy from Jackson
Mississippi isn't familiar with the term "newly frocked". I have heard
it used by family
and friends back as far as I can rememember. And at 53 that is a fair
amount of time.
