I'm trying to revive my flagging interest in hamming in general.
If you have a homebrew and/or kit project, sitting around, send me a
picture, its weight (for ground shipping estimate to 45251), and what
you'd
like to get, and maybe we can shake hands and do business.
Tubes or transistors -- doesn't matter.

Jeez Dave, there's your problem staring you in the face. You've got too much
money and are too lazy. Common instant gratification problem these days. If
you want more pizazz in your hobby, do something different. Since we can't
seem to get a good QSO going except for the one in a thousand, the "fun"
lies in doing something else instead of buying a radio and talking. (Or
worse, listening) Try melting some solder and getting some REAL enjoyment
out of using a piece of gear you've brought to life yourself. The pleasure
is never ending and the challenges are great.
For starters, there's the kit route, the Elecraft folks have a cool radio,
and if you want a greater challenge, any of the homebrew sites from the
CDG2000 to the PicaStar projects will do it (Google finds them both and
more) and make you a radio that performs better than ANYTHING you can buy.
Too bad the league didn't do either of them. Then too, you can make some
homebrew test equipment that falls in the same category and honestly
evaluate that new piece of gear. Might even interest you in a new hobby of
real metrology. This "hobby" will carry you to the grave if you just give it
half a chance. Line up a thousand "projects", and you can't die, there just
isn't any time for it.
