I should have pointed out, although K9 states it does not support SSL--with
3rd party utilities--it does support SSL....

sTunnel and the openssl libraries is the key to setting this up... and, I
use gmail with such a setup through outlook...

and, of course, this is all freeware or donation-ware...

also, if anyone wants to be invited for a free gmail account, let me know
and consider it done... then check your email...
