HAs anyone else tried this, using their roof's flashing as an antenna,
and if so, what were the results.. ?

Dan, when I was in college (a remote small university), I had my old
Hallicrafters SX-28 with me. The rain gutter downspout and roof flashing
were common and ALL copper, and just outside my dormitory window. I
hooked my antenna wire to it and the results were excellent. I wish I
hadn't sold that radio but it got me through college.
